    OTES Evaluation Pilot

Goshen Local Schools are piloting the finalized version of the OTES model during the 2012-2013 school year. We have 3-5 teachers at every building cooperating with their administrators to examine and provide feedback on the different components. Currently they are working on:
    1. Self Assessment
    2. Goal Setting
    3. PD on the eTPES, the online collaboration site
    4. Preparing for their first formal observations, which will consist of:
    a. Goal review and student growth measure identification
    b. Pre-Conference planning session
    c. a formal classroom observation using the Teacher Performance rubric

The districts evaluation team will be meeting very soon to put our professional development and communication plans into effective. Here is a glimpse at our timeline goals:

    RttT time-lines relating to Evaluation
    • By June 2013, 80% of teachers and 100% of principals will have participated in professional development on the new evaluation
    • End of year survey completed with teachers – 80 percent agree or strongly agree that they have information they need to understand the tools/process and have the opportunity to have questions answered and give feedback
    • By June 2013, the project team will have made 100% progress toward the completion of the teacher and principal evaluation systems
    • By June 2013, components of the revised evaluation system will have been piloted to inform decisions about future usage
    • By June 2013, the project team will develop a plan for highly effective teacher compensation/recognition with additional responsibilities such as department chair and LPDC

The evaluation team will be presenting a review of the Teacher Performance Rubric at September staff meetings and collaborating will all staff as we attempt to communicate this piece of educational change.

This pilot will give GLSD a great start towards meeting our 2013-2014 Race to the Top goal of implementing a comprehensive evaluation system and definitions of effective and highly effective teachers and principals, which encompass multiple measures, including student growth, that are aligned with the state/federal criteria.
