Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year! My name is Trent Olds, classroom teacher of the newly developed Alternative Classroom Experience (ACE) at Goshen High School. I am very excited to be working with your child this school year and providing the support they need to be successful in the classroom.
To support your child’s academic needs, they will be participating in the Alternative Classroom Experience (ACE). The ACE objective is to provide students with a functional and therapeutic education while meeting their needs in the least restrictive environment. The ACE student receives functional individualized and group instruction with full access to a holistic, school-based curriculum conducive to the student's various learning needs.
We as a staff here in the ACE program spend time with a small number of students on a daily basis, which in turn allows for greater opportunities to build personal relationships within the classroom and spend quality time developing academic and social-emotional skills. Everyday is something entirely new within the ACE program, which is phenominal because we are able to take the everyday high's and low's and develop a curriculum based solely around the students and one that stimulates a passion to learn. The ACE staff is able to take a direction relevant to student interest and invite opportunity for input, where the student's generate ideas and set daily goals. The student's within the ACE program have complete ownership of the curriculum, which is designed to foster intrinsic motivation where they become motivated to work hard and master the skills necessary to reach their goals.
The ACE staff is very excited to be working with your child this school year and providing the support they need to be successful in the classroom. We are here for your child and therefore would encourage you to contact us with any comments, questions or concerns. The best way to help your child be successful is to keep our lines of communication as open as possible.
Thank you so much for your time and cooperation. I am truly looking forward to working with you to help your child have a successful school year!
