    Cincinnati Area Spring College Fair

    All high school students and parents are invited to explore college options with over 150 nationally recognized colleges and universities. There is no charge for students and parents to attend the College Fair. There is no need to RSVP. Parking will be available near and around the Cintas Center.     NORTHERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY SOPHOMORE SHOWCASE




    OHIO UNIVERSITY SUMMER HONORS ACADEMY
    The Ohio University Summer Honors Academy provides an opportunity to enroll in selected college courses, earn college credit and experience life on campus. During the Honors Academy students will participate in an orientation session, take two or three regular Ohio University classes, choose from several Exploration Seminars where you will learn about college majors and related careers and spend a lot of time with University student mentors, who will conduct some of the non-class activities and give advice and assistance. The program is open to students who have completed the 9th, 10th, or 11th grades and have earned at least a 3.25 on a 4.0 grade scale. The program runs from July 1-August 2, 2013.     ARCHITECTURE CAMP
    The University of Detroit Mercy is holding an Architecture 2013 design camp this summer from June 24th to the 28th. This camp will expose students to fundamental concepts of architecture, design, and engineering. Visit http://architecture.udmercy.edu for more information and to apply.

    XAVIER JUMP START PROGRAM
    Xavier University will hold its annual JUMP START Program for high school sophomores and juniors. The program is two week on-campus program where students live on campus like a Xavier student with access to everything and take one of the two designated classes, Criminalistics/Forensic Science or Pre-Medicine for three college credits. Students will participate in college-readiness activities that prepare you for campus visits and writing college essays and enjoy off-campus trips in Cincinnati. The cost of the two week program is $2,350 which includes tuition, on-campus housing, meals, activities, books and supplies. SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE. The deadline for enrollment is March 1, 2013 and enrollment is limited. Apply online at www.xavier.edu/jumpstart.
    OHIO BUSINESS WEEK
    Ohio Business Week is an exciting weeklong summer camp experience for high school students of all ages and career interests. During Ohio Business Week students get the rare opportunity to experience entrepreneurship and explore all facets of business while living on a college campus. Ohio Business Week is scheduled for Ohio Dominican University from June 23-29 and at Youngstown University from July 28-August 3. Application deadline is April 30. See Mr. Mohler in the guidance office for an application and more information.

    TODAY'S LEARNERS, TOMORROW'S LEADERS PROGRAM
    Today's Learners, Tomorrow's Leaders (TL2) is a highly competitive three-week summer program for high school students at the University of Cincinnati. TL2 participants gain an understanding of microeconomics in a fun and engaging atmosphere. During this program, students will tour several highly successful Cincinnati firms such as Procter & Gamble, Ford, University Hospital and CItibank, earn college economics credit in only three week, network with current UC students who can give you advice and tips for a successful college experience and meet with college admission representatives and learn about available scholarship opportunities. The Program runs from June 10 to June 28. The application deadline is Friday, May 3. The program cost is $480. Participants receive three semester hours of transferable credit.     Go to www.actstudent.org to register. If you qualify for free or reduced lunch you can qualify for a fee waiver to cover the cost of the test ($50.50). See the guidance office for the waiver.

    NOVEMBER 15 PLAN TEST FOR HIGH SCHOOL SOPHOMORES

    Seniors who have applied to colleges need to contact the Guidance office so that an official transcript can be sent to the college or university. Please do not wait until the last day before the application deadline to let us know

    COLLEGE VISITS

    Juniors and Seniors are allowed several days during their last two years to visit colleges. Students must complete a college day form at least three days in advance and make arrangements with the college.

    HELPFUL HINTS FOR A SUCCESSFUL COLLEGE VISIT

    Make yourself known to the admissions staff

    Spend the night in the dorm if you can

    Talk to current students

    Eat a meal in the cafeteria

    Tour the campus and see all the facilities

    Sit in on a class if possible

    Questions to ask: What are the core requirements?

    What percentage of students graduate in four years?

    What security measures are in place on campus?

    What types of housing are available?

    What meal plans are available?

    Are there WI-FI connections in the dorms and throughout the campus?

    What recreational activities are available on campus?

    Are there employment opportunities on campus or close by the campus?

    How many students are typically in each class?

    Is off-campus housing available?

    How do I qualify for financial aid?

    Are there scholarship opportunities available?
