    GMS grant and Turkey-Trot information

    Dear Parents,

    Goshen Middle School was selected as a 2010 recipient of the“Run For Something Better” (ING RFSB) School Awards Program.This program is funded and endorsed by ING and the National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE).The ING Running Program is designed to fight against childhood obesity by introducing children to the benefits of running, as well as teaching children the importance of living a physically fit and healthy lifestyle.Over 350 middle schools applied for the ING Running Grant.Goshen Middle School is one of only 60 schools chosen nationally for such an award/grant.The program will be introduced at GMS this fall with Mrs. Wood’s seventh grade physical education classes and will continue with Mr. Gregory’s second semester P.E. classes.

    As part of the ING grant, GMS will be conducting a 3K run/walk fundraiser.Any and all funds raised will be donated to the Camp Dennison chapter of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).Students will be collecting donations.Any student making a donation of $10 or more will receive a free T-shirt celebrating the event.The date for the 3K run/walk is Tuesday November 23, 2010.

    Since its founding more than 80 years ago, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) has been dedicated to a single purpose: building better lives for America's disabled veterans and their families. Fidelity to that mission has required DAV to respond creatively and flexibly to changing and sometimes unpredictable challenges faced by its constituency. Whether disabled veterans have needed a voice on Capitol Hill, a nationwide service program, a transportation network or unique rehabilitation opportunities, DAV has focused its attention and resources to meet those needs.

    All Health/Physical Education classes will be participating.Students are strongly encouraged to participate, in both, the 3K run/walk and donation collecting.Parents, family, and community members are also encouraged to participate.The DAV is a very worthwhile program and our military veterans will benefit tremendously by the contributions made by GMS.

    Students please use the back of this page to record your donation amounts and information regarding those who gave a monetary contribution.GMS would like send a “thank you” email to all who donate and participate in this charity event.Please make checks payable to: DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS.Also, include all donations, and “contributor info. slips” in the envelopes provided.Don’t forget T-shirt size if you gather more than ten dollars in donations.All donation envelopes need to be turned-in to Mr. Gregory or Mrs. Wood by FRIDAY, November 12th, 2010.Any questions, or parents willing to volunteer, please contact Mrs. Wood at 513-722-2226 or woodk@goshenlocalschools.org or Mr. Gregory at gregoryc@goshenlocalschools.org
