I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to work with truly amazing kids here at GMS! Together, let's make it a great year!
COURSE GOALS:
- Develop skills and motivation in reluctant readers
- Extend the abilities of each reader
- Encourage students to become engaged with text (through modeling and by providing necessary skills and opportunities), making meaning and personal connections
- Provide students with the skills and resources needed to select appropriate, interesting, and challenging reading materials
- Reinforce skills needed to effectively read various types of text
- Provide students with opportunities to collaborate with peers as readers and writers
- Provide students with the skills to become proficient writers through modeling and peer collaboration

What is an SRI score?
Students take a SRI (Scholastic Reading Inventory) test twice a year to evaluate their lexile level or, in other words, their individual reading ability. Students are better able to comprehend books that are within their lexile range. Ask you child what their SRI score is. To find out more information about lexile levels or to find book recommendations based on your child's lexile level please visit the following websites:
