    Physical Education Class information and PE National Standards



    Handbook Policy

    Goshen Middle School students may be required to take Physical Education each day for one semester.Students are required to have gym shoes, white socks, shorts, or warm-up pants, and t-shirt.It is suggested that gym clothes be taken home each week.Students are required to dress out for gym class each day even if they do not take gym that day.Students can be excused from Phys. Ed. for a day for injury or illness with a note from a parent or guardian.If a student cannot take Phys. Ed. for extended period of time, a doctor’s excuse will be required.

    Gym Lockers and Locker Room Policy

    Students are not to use locks on the gym lockers.There are not enough lockers for each student therefore students should keep all valuables (money, jewelry, purses, etc.) in their individual hallway lockers.The school is not responsible for any missing items during gym class.All students are instructed to keep valuables locked up in their hallway lockers and to not bring them to gym class.

    Furthermore, it is a privilege for students to use the locker rooms to change for gym class.If there is any inappropriate behavior or damage to the locker rooms that privilege may be taken away.

    National Standards for Physical Education

    Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health. The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. A physically educated person:

    Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

    Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

    Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity.

    Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

    Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

    Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

    Students will participate in various team and individual sport/activities during the semester.Some examples of these sports are:
