
What is the Accelerated Reader Program?
All students will take a S.T.A.R. reading test that will be used to determine his or her reading level.Students choose books that fall within the determined reading level and read them at their own pace.After that students take a short quiz on the computer.Students will receive immediate feedback.Parents will also receive feedback through Home Connect.
This year we have a web based version of Accelerated Reader.Parents and students will be able to view goals, points, books read and much more from home.
How does it work?
Students will set a personal point goal for each quarter.Students will earn rewards for meeting goals.Progress can be monitored through Home Connect.
Select a book from the school or public library, classroom, or home that is based on your child’s individual interests and reading levels.There are over 100,000 titles to choose from. You can AR Bookfinder (link below) to find books on your child's level.
Read the book Your child reads the book at his or her own pace.Books can be read to your child, with your child or on their own.
Take an AR quiz. After reading an AR book your child will take a computerized quiz.Tests consist of 5 or 10 multiple choice questions over the book.After the quiz students immediately see the number of questions answered correctly and incorrectly as well as points earned.
Home Reading The parent's role in this program is to encourage reading at home.Teachers allot reading time during the school day, but reading at home increases the student's success. Books read will need to recorded each night and signed by a parent.
