    SIGHT WORDS
During the kindergarten year, your child will be expected to learn 40 sight words. Sight words are words that are memorized so that, when reading, every word does not have to be sounded out. We will be learning one or more new words per week and always reviewing previous words, so the children will have many chances to practice. In our newsletter each week you will find the word(s) we have learned so you can also practice them at home.
When I send home report cards I will update you on your child’s progress. You can practice the words at home in several different ways. You can make flash cards, look for our words in books you read together, or practice spelling our words with letter magnets.
Following is a list of our words for the year. In addition to these words, we will learn color words for the eight basic colors and number words from zero to ten.
